Happy Birthday, My Beloved!
Dearest Calvin,
I rejoice in this day- the day of your birth.  Even though I wasn’t born yet, I believe God had our family in mind even then.  I praise Him for how He guarded us and guided us throughout childhood, and brought us together in His time.
Life with you is an adventure, and it has surpassed any dreams I had.  And yet, you have faithfully helped me to realize and recognize incredible dreams as God molds our family on His Potter’s Wheel.

That first brief moment we met, the gaze of your thought-filled blue eyes mirrored my soul, and they still do today.  I had only known you for mere weeks, when God impressed upon me to place my heart in your hands.  As He revealed to me that you were the one I had prayed for over the years, I realized how little I really knew you.  Could I really bind myself in a life-long covenant with this man?  Then, clear as the sunshine filling my room, the answer came.  He said “I am Love, and I will teach you to love him.”  He has taught me so much more than I ever expected.

Today, just as I knew on that fall day seven years ago, I still know that you’re the man God created me to love and serve.  My love for you has grown deeper and stronger over the years, just as God promised me it would.

The verse God placed upon my heart as we entered our courtship still guides our family today.  “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (Isaiah 30:21)  This was my first big step toward living simply, as I learned to take an incredible leap of faith.

The Thanksgiving day your father announced our betrothal, I felt like the most blessed woman in the world.  I still do.  Really.  The New Year’s that you proposed, I stood in awe at God’s handiwork in our lives.  He continues to amaze me today.

No matter what uncertainties face us on a daily basis, or what trials we face, you’re my best friend.  Even though our life seems stormy right now, I love you more than ever.

The simplicity of loving you, and living life with you is incredible.  As days go by, I realize how little I really need… but I need you.

When you asked for my hand in marriage, I meant it when I said “I would be honored.”  It is truly an honor, my dear, to grow old with you.  (Even though we can’t ever seem to remember how old we really are!)  Your increasing grey hairs have endeared themselves upon my heart, dear one.  It is inspiring to watch God impart wisdom and depth of character upon your life, as you grow in your roles of a husband, father, and friend.

I celebrate this day with you.

I celebrate the gift of you.

I love living a life of celebration with you.

With my hand in yours,
Sheli
