Grand Opening & A Giveaway! (Living A Simple Life Part 29)

Simple Thurs

Perhaps you have wondered at my recent thrift store shopping trips, or at my frequent mentions of sewing projects as of late. Well, visit my new Etsy shop, and you’ll know why! :)
By the way, if you don’t already have an Etsy account, go here to sign up (it’s free).  It’s a great way to support local, handcrafting artisans.  Have fun browsing around!  Once you create an account, you can mark your favorites.

I have been mulling over the thought of a shop for ages, and we finally felt like this was a good time to begin the endeavor.  I am so thankful for my supportive husband, who has been thoroughly encouraging during this whole season.
Whether he is giving his opinion on “What do you think of this color pink, dear?” or stirring a pot of applesauce, so that I can do “Just one more stitch…,” he has joyfully embraced this journey.  Thanks, hon.  So far, we have had lovely evenings where he reads to me while I do some hand-stitching.

Gen is fascinated by the sewing process.  She is continually running to the sewing machine, saying “Sewing? Sewing?”  She loves it when I let her play with spools of thread while I sew, and gets so excited when I pull out new material.  It reminds me of when I was a child, and would play with my Mom’s button collection, while she sewed.  I am so glad that we are instilling the love of creativity and homemaking into her life.
Also, I was inspired after reading Mary Pride’s book All The Way Home (one of my favorite books), by her encouragement to expose homeschooled children to a home-based business experience, if possible.  In her book The Way Home, she describes the necessity of equipping young women with life skills they can do from home.  Stacy McDonald has also written on occasion of the joys in seeing her daughters flourishing with skills at home.  These are some of our hopes for Gen, as she learns to live simply and joyfully, and blossoms into who God is creating her to be.
This just seemed like the next step in living simply.
 A sustainable, family endeavor.
Plus, you get to join me in celebrating this step!
Now for the fun giveaway part…
I will be giving away a set of homemade lavender sachets!

As you may know by now, I no longer purchase fabric softener/dryer sheets.  I just add some vinegar to the wash, and then toss a lavender sachet into the dryer.  These sachets last for quite awhile.  Once the lavender buds lose their scent (usually after about 10 loads), just add a few drops of essential oil onto the sachet before each load.  Each 100% cotton sachet is filled with a few tablespoons of fragrant lavender buds.

If you don’t want to put them in your laundry, they are perfect for placing in dresser drawers or linen closets. They also make lovely stocking stuffers or bridal gifts.

By the way, if you can’t wait for the giveaway, send me a note, and I can custom make a set for you to purchase for $9 + shipping.  I’m also offering free gift-wrapping through the end of the year.

Ok, enough of my advertisement…

Here are the conditions for the giveaway (yeah, I’m going to make it fun; you can’t just leave a comment and say “I want that.”)– but it’s easy!  And you even have choices… (see, I told you it was fun).  :)
In your comment, either,
  • List your favorite Etsy shops (you can include your own, if you want) OR
  • Leave a link to a favorite item you have purchased on Etsy OR
  • List a favorite thing that you found in my Frugal Granola Etsy shop (I will be adding more items through the week.)

Make sure to leave a link to your blog or your e-mail address, so that I have a way to contact you, if you win!  This contest is open to bloggers and non-bloggers anywhere.

  • For an additional entry, post about this contest on your blog, then come back here and leave another comment with a link to your post!
This giveaway will close on Tuesday night, Oct. 28th.  The winner will be determined by random drawing, and announced on Wednesday Oct. 29th.  Comments that don’t contain one of these “conditions” will not be included.
And, to allay any concerns… don’t worry- this isn’t going to become an “advertising” blog!  I just wanted to share this exciting event with all of you, dear readers.  :)  Thanks for celebrating with me!

I am going to love this site. I hve been trying the last year to make my own cleaning supplies and other household items. I don’t sew or craft, but I am very interested in not only saving money, but the world and the people who live here, by lowering my spreading of chemicals.

Great tip on the flax seeds. I have used them on salads and on top of baked goods for years. Now I have a daughter that needs gluten free and this will be a great help.
