Journey of Blessing: Lonely

A table for one?

As you sit, sipping your cup of tea, staring at the empty seat across from you, what are your thoughts?

Is there a deep longing in your heart to be noticed, to be confided in, committed to, and even rescued on occasion?

God put a unique longing in your heart, dear one. It is not a mistake. It is not something to bury or wish away. Do you find yourself pleading for Him to take this ache away?

Whether you are a single maiden, awaiting God’s blessing of marriage, or in the midst of a challenging marriage season where you feel alone, loneliness can creep into our hearts.

With the Lord’s guidance, examine your heart. It is easy to believe our desires can be fulfilled by something more physical; something temporary.

Our Father is faithful to meet our physical needs, and to overwhelmingly bless His children’s desires. He created marriage and friendships; community is essential!  But He also placed a deep longing in our hearts that can only be fulfilled by an intimate relationship with Him.

Remember, you are His daughter. Above all relationships, make sure you are walking in intimacy with Christ. He offers the fulfillment of your deepest desires.

Look at Psalm 25:

“The LORD confides in those who fear him;
he makes his covenant known to them.

My eyes are ever on the LORD,
for only he will release my feet from the snare.

Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.

The troubles of my heart have multiplied;
free me from my anguish.

Look upon my affliction and my distress
and take away all my sins.
(Psalm 25:14-18, emphasis mine)

Do not allow yourself to become consumed by your desires or loneliness. Instead, place those desires into our Father’s hands, and allow Him to fill your heart. Allow heartache to pull you closer to Him, not seek a substitute.

Ask the Lord to continue transforming your heart, replacing temporal desires with the eternal. He can and will bless you abundantly, my friend!

How is your heart today, dear one? I’d love to hear.

    Thank you. Whilst we look to God for soul satisfaction – we do need companions along the way. We need to to know in mind and spirit we are not alone, Thank you – your words reminded me that I have been heard, that I am being heard. Thank you for the words of a friend, for the words of The Comforter.
