As the spring rains poured down, I pushed the windows open to enjoy its sweet sound and smell. A CD from the library played Pachelbel’s Canon in D (some of my favorite “rainy day” music!) to accompany our day, and blended with the sound of raindrops and birdsong.
We made a “fort” in the living room with chairs and homemade quilts. Gen nestled in there (wearing pink fuzzy pajamas for pure rainy day comfort!) for much of the day with a sleeping bag and baby dolls. (Enoch crawled in & out occasionally.)
The scent of lavender wafted through the house as I folded laundry, tidied our home, and prepared packages of gifts and Etsy orders to mail tomorrow. (By the way, new fabrics are coming soon for the sachets! I’ll let you know.)
I frequently responded to requests for snacks (certainly necessary for rainy-day fort parties!), and eventually we made a batch of “Healthy” Flourless Peanut Butter Brownies. (For some reason, I always associate warm peanut butter cookies with rainy days; I’m not sure why.)
Soup simmered on the stove for much of the afternoon, and apples baked in the oven to bless my husband after a long workday.
At the close of the day, with our little ones scrubbed pink-cheeked from the bath, snuggled into clean pajamas and rejoicing at their daddy’s presence, we gathered around the table for our family worship time.
As I listened to the heartfelt prayer of gratitude for our family and blessings of the day in the words of our three-year-old, I rejoiced along with her. A sweet little one, a bundle of wiggles and pink flowered pajamas, petitioning the Throne of Grace…
God is good… and I am so glad we are simply His.
Be glad, O people of Zion,
rejoice in the LORD your God,
for he has given you
the autumn rains in righteousness.
He sends you abundant showers,
both autumn and spring rains, as before.
Do you have some rainy day joys? I’d love to hear!
