Living a Simple Life #94- Equipping

The Relevant ConferenceIt is my passion to bless my family and minister to the hearts of women, encouraging them to live simple, sustainable lives; glorifying God during every season of life.

It has been a joy to equip women with a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, along with practical tips for daily living “in real life” and online through blogging.

When I heard about The Relevant Conference, the mission statement really resonated with me:

The Relevant Conference exists to offer a place of face to face interaction with Christian women bloggers who want to be relevant in the larger blog and social media world. Our goal is to go beyond the surface into intentional blogging and real life living. We support women turning their hearts toward home and using their blogs to bless their families while also engaging the world for the glory of God. Relevant is a one-of-a-kind conference that seeks to engage women by teaching blogging techniques and social media skill while also urging and encouraging women to live fully integrated lives with their faith and family.

After much prayer, my Beloved felt like he should encourage me to attend. But I will not be attending alone: our whole family will be traveling to Pennsylvania in October!

Our family is passionate about the necessity of dedicated discipleship for our children, and maintaining our family attachments/stability (including breastfeeding, family worship times at bedtime, and homeschooling during traveling). I’m sure there will be a day when we have another “getaway” without the little ones, but we are excited to share this experience with them.

It has been our heart as a family to pursue lifelong learning, and to instill that love of learning in our children. Reading Mary Pride’s book All the Way Home (still one of my favorites!) years ago was a transformative experience for me in many ways. One of which, was an affirmation to our family to invest in biblical education and equipping for practically glorifying God in our daily life skills.

We feel that attending this conference is one of those steps in equipping. We have taken a step of faith in committing to attend. I am in the process of gradually sending out proposals, seeking sponsorship to this event. (ahem… If you are interested in discussing sponsorship opportunities, I would love to send you my proposal!) :)

Calvin is still seriously considering attending seminary in the next year or two, and we have been praying over this possibility as a family. We are excited for the education potential at Relevant, as I seek to walk alongside my husband in ministry (however that looks in life; God has called all believers to evangelism).

I am looking forward to networking and learning from such speakers as Sally Clarkson (author of one of my favorite homeschooling books, Educating the Wholehearted Child), Angie Smith (wife of Selah singer Todd Smith, and author of I Will Carry You), the dear Crystal Paine (of Money Saving Mom)Ann Voskamp (writer of a long-treasured blog, A Holy Experience), and many other incredible women, using their influence and talents for the glory of God.

I was thrilled to see a refreshing post on Relevant’s page on Facebook this past weekend:

The Relevant conference isn’t about becoming Relevant in the world, it’s about how God’s Word *is* Relevant to the world :)

So, friends, this simply seems “the next step.” For today, I place my hand in His, living simply… because I am simply His. I am excited to see what God has in store for us in this adventure of life!

I’d love to hear if you are going to Relevant too!

Each Thursday, I write a new post in this Simple Living series, so stop by next week!
