In living simply, I strive to consciously allow for times of rest; especially a Sabbath Rest. Setting aside the Sabbath has been close to my heart for years, but I have recently begun mulling it over a bit more.
For me, resting doesn’t necessarily mean sleeping (although a nap is nice occasionally!). Resting means savoring time with my Savior.
Immersing myself in His creation, passionately delving into creativity (a gift from Him), and intimate times of worshipping my Bridegroom are all ways I rest on the Sabbath.
R.C. Sproul, Jr. writes in his book, When You Rise Up (one of my favorites!), “Praise God that in his grace we get a taste each week, as we enter the worship experience in our weekly rest, of our eternal rest.”
A taste of heaven.
God didn’t rest on the seventh day because He was tired (He’s God!). Although we do physically need our rest- especially in stressful seasons- for health; on a deeper level, He calls us to rest in Him. I encourage you to dig into the Bible, and explore for yourself what the Sabbath means.
Most of all, I seek to set the Sabbath apart. It is special.
I want to savor it. To cherish it.
I would love for you to share how you savor the Sabbath and what God is speaking to your heart. Whether it’s taking a hike with your family, setting aside a special quiet time for reading and prayer, exploring new avenues of creativity, delving into sharing a gift of hospitality, or something else, I’d love to hear about it!
I’m starting something new!
I’ll put up a “Linky” on the weekends, and you can stop by anytime to add your thoughts. Write a blog post on how you’re Simply Savoring the Sabbath, and link up! (If you don’t have a blog, you can put your note in the comments.)
It can be as simple as a photo and a verse you’re mulling over during the Sabbath, sharing about a book you’re learning from, or a description of your day… just keep your Sabbath restful & worshipful.
I’ll try have the Linky up by Friday night or Saturday morning. But if you’re savoring the Sabbath by stepping away from the internet, that’s fine! I’ll leave the Linky open through Mondays, so that you can come back later and share about your weekend.
(You can write about last weekend, your plans for the coming weekend, or what you’re doing right then; it’s up to you!)
I’d love it if you use the new “Simply Savoring the Sabbath” button that I made for your posts, but you don’t have to. Here it is:
Will you join me?
Because Living Simply means simply placing my hand in His.
