Simply Savoring the Sabbath

Welcome to the first week of “Simply Savoring the Sabbath!”

Frugal Granola

Link up and share how you are savoring and cherishing a time of rest and worship.
(To read more about this, visit the intro at Living a Simple Life: Resting.)

As I seek a time of rest and intimacy with my Savior, I am often inspired in my reading. Lately I have been gleaning so much encouragement and edification from the book A Place of Quiet Rest by Nancy Leigh DeMoss.

I have been making my way slowly through the book (unlike how I usually speed-read!), savoring the words from some wise women, such as Kay Arthur, Joni Eareckson Tada, and Elisabeth Elliot. The introspective questions at the end of each chapter call me to think deeply, evaluating my days.

It’s stretching, convicting, growing… and it’s good.

As I read, I am called away from the dailyness of balancing a grocery budget, mending for growing little ones, and scrubbing muddy footprints… I am called to the arms of my Father.

I am drawn with delight into His Word, and I rest in Him… A “honeymoon” of sorts with my Bridegroom.

How are you Simply Savoring the Sabbath this weekend?

Whether it’s taking a hike with your family in God’s creation, setting aside a special quiet time for reading and prayer, exploring new avenues of creativity, delving into sharing a gift of hospitality, or something else, I’d love to hear about it!

  • Thank you for this post! I’m going to be enjoying an evening of reading and prayer and a cup of tea. Resently my time with Jesus has not been what it should. I’ve been visiting family and sadly my priorities have not been what they should. Last night I was truly convicted of how my time with God over the past month has been more of read and memorize a little but not really just sting there, studying and learning from my Creator and pouring my heart out to him. Thank you!
