Homemade Lotion Bars & Lip Balm DIY Kit {Demo & Giveaway!}

About once or twice a year, I mix up batches of lotions and lip balms for our family and gifts. I typically keep the bulk ingredients on hand (such as coconut oil, shea butter, and essential oils). But I’ve regularly heard from readers who *don’t* buy these items in bulk, and are looking for affordable options to still make their own cosmetics.

Renee of MadeOn Hard Lotion creates wonderful lotion bars and lip balms, which our family has thoroughly enjoyed. Our daughter loves her Hair Butter, and the Beesilk Bars have been so soothing on my hands after the many required hand-washings in our business. (I always keep a lotion bar in a tin tucked into my purse!)

And now, she has introduced a Do-It-Yourself Kit! She supplies just the right amount of “bulk” ingredients to create your own batches of lotions bars and/or lip balms, as a more affordable option to purchasing the “ready-made” products (or even the refills!), and you won’t have big tubs of leftovers gathering dust on the shelf.

It’s a perfect project for “cooking with mama” in the kitchen, whether you’re preparing them for your family or as gifts. (These would make lovely Mother’s Day gifts!) {Sorry, Nana, guess you’re not going to be surprised, now.} :)

Here is a video of my daughter and I using the DIY Kit from MadeOn Hard Lotion. (Sorry, we had the camera turned sideways for the first half!) Little Enoch was banging around in his highchair occasionally; sorry for the extra noise… but we’re keeping it real!) :)

Now, you can enter to win your own DIY Kit, plus a copy of my natural remedies eBook, Herbal Nurturing!

To Enter the Giveaway:

    I’m most interested in the hair butter. I’ve been trying the replacing the shampoo with baking soda thing (for health reasons and it’s more than cost effective), but I find using the vinegar as a conditioner (cuticle sealer) isn’t as uh.. aesthetically pleasing. I’ve been following MadeOn on facebook for awhile now. Once I have free money, she’s gonna looove me. [: But, broke beyond belief! So I’d love this.

  • I am really interested in the bug block bar – I am fearful for my baby experiencing her first mosquitoes this summer! (and hoping she is not like me, as they seem to seek me out).

    I have always used the highly toxic, high DEET insect repellents, and though I know I will never use them again, it’s hard to imagine sometimes that a natural product could work as well. I am happy to see this option and would love to give it a try.

  • I subscribed to the newsletter. :)

  • I think the DYI Kit is a brilliant idea and I’m really interested in the bug block bar since I’m not a fan of a lot of the other options out there.

    I think my favorite product that she has is the hair butter. My son has a head full of curls, and I have gone through every product on the shelves trying to find something that defines the curl without being too heavy. I had never heard of hair butter before, but it’ll go on my “to try” list for sure!

  • Monica
