Saturday evening, I baked a quick & simple batch of the grain-free brownies from Against the Grain, a new ebook from Kate of Modern Alternative Mama, featuring delicious grain-free recipes.
I had intended to give the brownies to my sister-in-law for Mother’s Day, but my little boy dug into the pan “helping” me in the kitchen, and then everyone had a “taste” of the brownies. (We were left with a plate of crumbs, and I’ve had to bake another batch for her!)
She’s been on a new diet, and I loved knowing I could whip up a “diet-friendly” treat for her! They were grain-free, so I didn’t need any special flours, dairy-free, and sweetened with honey.
Tonight for dinner, I have a batch of the grain-free Baked Beans simmering (finally- a ketchup-free recipe!).
Our family isn’t completely grain-free, but it’s nice to not rely on them so much; both for our health and our budget. (It can be more nourishing and affordable- and faster!- to steam up some cauliflower or squash as a side for dinner, instead of baking a gluten-free bread.)
If you are grain-free, it’s especially nice to have new options for meals, especially if company is coming or you’re celebrating a holiday. (There are plenty of kid-friendly cake options in the book, as well as fun meal and snack ideas!)
Kate is offering to give away one copy of Against the Grain to a Frugal Granola reader!
