My Story

I am Michele, a Christ-follower and the blessed wife of Calvin. We are the parents of two precious children. Our daughter Genevieve (born 12/06) joined our family through the miracle of adoption, and Enoch (born 8/09) entered our arms through an incredible home waterbirth. We believe that children are a blessing from the Lord.

We have recently embarked upon establishing a sustainable, real food Bed & Breakfast in the Pacific Northwest, along with pursuing lay ministry in our rural community. (Will you join us for a retreat or vacation getaway? Let us know you came from Frugal Granola!)

I love spending my days blessing my family and walking in discipleship with women. I especially appreciate opportunities to speak truth to women’s lives as they journey through difficult seasons (such as infertility, marriage struggles, grief, illness, husband’s unemployment, etc.).

After years of infertility and materialism, we took a leap of faith and embarked upon a journey of “Simple Living” in 2007. God has amazed us in His gracious provision (physically and relationally). As we have desired to walk with Christ in our daily lives, He has made Himself known to us in incredible ways.

In living simply, I have desired to be a good steward of all that God has given us, and to glorify Him with our bodies as a vessel for the Holy Spirit. I seek to live a frugal and sustainable lifestyle (hence the title “Frugal Granola”), and enjoy inspiring others with similar aspirations. Personally, I have pursued learning about living biblically in my God-given role as a woman.

I adore creativity, and seek opportunities to encourage this in my children as well as myself. We typically have art & craft supplies spread throughout our home, as well as stacks of books from the library. We love reading and learning together!

We also enjoy thrift store shopping, sharing tea time together, hiking on the local mountain trails, seasonally delving into organic gardening, and opening up our home for hospitality around a natural foods-filled dinner table as we encourage our guests in the love of Christ. (We are also daily refined by God’s grace as we encounter challenges in parenting, marriage, and life situations!)
